Easter Sunday always seems to sneak up on us! One minute, we have six more weeks of winter, and the next thing I know, I’m deep into planning Easter baskets. Seriously, is there anything more fun to get ready for than Easter? The candy, the chocolate eggs, the Easter bunny, jelly beans, sweet treats galore. Let’s not forget about the perfect Easter basket! It’s the highlight of the season! The pastels and florals are a bonus, too and it’s the perfect time to prep for the spring season.
Traditional Baskets
I love getting creative with our Easter baskets. Sometimes I’ll even use a wicker basket as a cute table centerpiece for spring, filled with fresh flowers. If you’re hosting, it’s an easy way to add some Easter charm to your decor. And of course, I always love filling baskets with marshmallow Peeps, chocolate bunnies, and all the classic treats. But here’s a fun twist: for the kids, I go big with larger baskets because they’re not just for candy anymore. The more space, the better when it comes to Easter basket ideas!
I’m a traditional Easter basket person, so I stick to the classic wicker. But let me tell you, there are so many fun options out there now, it’s hard not to branch out. Personalized baskets? Yes, please! They make Easter feel even more special, especially if you’ve got a range of ages in your family. For example, my older kids might not be as excited about a basket of chocolate as they once were, but Easter morning is still a big deal, no matter how old they are.
So, what are the best baskets to fill this Easter season? Here are our top picks:
Size
Firstly, I tend to go for the larger baskets because my kids aren’t too excited about just chocolate anymore. They are a bit older so we do more than cadbury mini eggs and chocolate-covered pretzels. A better way to stuff Easter baskets for your teens and tweens are to pick out summer and spring break related items, such as flip flops, travel pouches, towels and bathing suits. We go for things the kids will use the next two seasons! They are practical items and would be a great idea for a college student, as well.
It doesn’t need to be all practical, we like a little fun, as well! For example, pick out a cute stuffed animal, some crafts, books, nail polish or even hats. Obviously the sweet tooth options can be more fun and traditional, but I want you to keep in mind that it doesn’t have to just include candy. Furthermore, if you have little kids, I recommend you go for the smaller adorable little wire baskets so they can carry them while they hunt for Easter eggs! Last year, we went with larger baskets which were great because they fit so much and we actually reuse them as often as we can. A good idea is to even use them as picnic baskets for the spring and summer. These can hold things like a card game, small toys, activity book, water bottle and any other small item for warmer weather.
Pick a Material
Secondly, traditional Easter baskets tend to be wicker or wire. I find it cool that there are so many options on the market for the perfect Easter gift basket. They don’t get one use, kids can use them to hold their toys, go on picnics, etc. And I think that’s what the best part is. Henceforth, they are all so different. Recently, I’ve had my eye on those felt or soft material baskets for the Easter season. These work great for Easter egg hunts to gather plastic eggs. A few other choices are rustic Easter baskets, foam, a plush bunny design and even cord material. Specifically, the perfect place to shop for a sweet basket is Pottery Barn Kids. They just have so many options, that I find myself always checking there first. Kids’ Easter baskets are often pastel and traditional materials, but there are so many fabric options coming up these days and they are a fun tradition for a child’s Easter basket. It makes them more personalized and they are great for younger kids because they are soft.
Personalization Them
Finally, personalization is always so special. It’s not just putting a name on a basket, though. This could be several different things such as monogramming, basket liners, colorways and more! For us, we like to monogram liners so the kids know which basket is theirs and they are reusable so they can fit on pretty much any basket. It’s a great addition to make the day feel a bit more special for Easter celebrations and also makes the kids feel seen, since they all have different personalities. A touch of personalization goes a long way. Keep an eye out for my blog post coming out soon all about basket stuffer ideas! Adult kids like Easter baskets, too! So an innovative way to make the holiday feel a bit more special is giving a great gift of a personalized basket. You can put a small gift card and candy in them, it doesn’t need to be full of a lot but adult coloring books even work for that too.
