Many of the Valentines crafts you’ll find on my blog were made by my daycare kids when they were in elementary school so they’re perfect for 5-10 year olds.

They’re scattered all over the blog though, so I thought I’d make things easy for you and put them all here into one post for you.

For other age groups:

I hope your kids have as much fun crafting for Valentine’s Day as we have!

Styrofoam Sewing Activity

This styrofoam sewing activity was a lovely way to introduce my 5-10 year olds to sewing and to teach them some of the basic sewing stitches. Sew some hearts to give the activity a Valentines theme.

Milk Carton Valentines Houses

Young children of all ages will love making these milk carton Valentines houses. If you make enough of them, you can set them up as a village on a window sill in your home or classroom.

This fabulous activity combines a Valentines craft and an elementary school science activity. Click here to see how to get this gorgeous effect using just Sharpie markers and rubbing alcohol. The process is really easy but so fascinating!

I can guarantee whatever ages your kids are, they’ll love making these Cardboard Valentines cookies. My kids LOVED making each one of these “cookies” unique.

Paper Plate Heart Yarn Art

This Paper Plate Heart Weaving activity incorporates lots of fun elements – painting, tracing, poking holes, and weaving. And the results are downright adorable. Kids in the 5-8 age range will enjoy this, while older kids will enjoy the sytoroam sewing activity I shared above.

Crumpled Tissue Paper Hearts

This tissue paper heart craft is a classic. Remember doing this when you were in elementary school? Younger children can simply crumple and stick their tissue paper, and older kids can plan their designs in advance. Older kids can also twist their tissue around the end of a pencil to get a more uniform look.

Sharpie and Photo Paper Hearts

If you’ve never tried Sharpie and Photo Paper Art, you must! It’s such a slick process and Sharpie ink looks so vibrant on the glossy paper. Your kids could turn these Sharpie-photo paper hearts into a Valentines mobile for home or the classroom.

Block Printing Valentines Cards

This is my new favourite art technique. You could use this styrofoam printmaking process for a grade school art lesson any time of year, and it’s perfect for making homemade Valentines cards.

Paper Bag and Toilet Roll Framed Heart Art

I think my daycare kids were about 7 or 8 when they made this Toilet Roll Heart Art. We used a paper bag as a canvas and framed it in a dollar store frame, and it looked just great! This is a quick and easy Valentines gift for a child to make for a parent.

Sharpie and Tin Foil Hearts

Where would we be without Sharpies? Some people are hesitant to let their kids use Sharpies, but by 8 years of age, you don’t need to worry as much. These tinfoil and Sharpie Valentines hearts are so easy to make. If you’ve never experienced a Sharpie gliding across a slippery piece of aluminum foil, you need to try this one.

Glittered Clay Dough Heart Ornaments

If your kids are in the 5-10 year age range, they’re probably old enough to use glitter responsibly. I know, I held off for years because….. glitter… Your kids will love making these glittered hearts though, so give it a try. Mixing, kneading and shaping the dough is all part of the activity, and the dough requires just 2 kitchen ingredients and water.

Paper Plate Valentines Weaving

This paper plate Valentines craft is a lot of fun too. Younger grades can weave randomly, while older kids can practice basic sewing stitches and experiment with specific weaving patterns.

“Tie-Dye” Valentines Sun Catchers

These Valentines sun catchers look so bright and cheery in a winter window, and the process for making them is so fun. It doesn’t matter how old my kids get, they never tire of this art process. It’s such a fun way to brighten a dull and dreary room with some Valentines cheer.

Glittered Heart Luminaries

If your kids love glitter, but you’re not so big on it, you might be up for giving these glittered heart luminaries a try. They’d look sweet on a table for a candlelight Valentines dinner. The glitter is totally contained while you make these, so it’s about as neat and tidy as a glitter craft can be.

Ribbon and Fabric Scrap Valentines Cards

These ribbon and fabric scrap cards are a wonderful way to use up those bits and pieces that you have stashed in your sewing basket. It’s a great fine-motor exercise for younger children, and older children will enjoy planning and co-ordinating their colours and design.
