Utilizing the Alphabet Letter Tracing Activity
These cards are very simple to use. Students will take a card from the pile and trace the letter with their finger or a dry erase marker. Then, they will look at the beginning sound pictures and determine which one starts with letter on the card. They will do this by saying the words out loud while listening for the sound the letter makes at the beginning of each word.
Each card features pictures that are easy to identify. Example: a, /a/, apple. The uppercase card and lowercase card have two different picture choices for added exposure.
Other Ways to Use the Alphabet Cards
This alphabet activity provides students with two different ways to interact with each letter. Students who are not ready to work on beginning sounds, can just trace the letters and you can pre-mark the correct beginning sound picture for reference.
Plus, there is separate card for lowercase and for uppercase letters. So you can work on only uppercase or only lowercase letters to start and the combine them and work on them all, if you would like. You can work on both letters together by cutting the sheets in half and keeping the uppercase and lowercase letters together.
You can make the cards self-checking by adding a small dot or sticker to the back of the card that marks the correct choice. Students can flip the card over to check their answer after they have made their choice.
To add more fine motor skills practice to this letter tracing activity, have students use play dough to make the letter. They can roll it into snakes and form the letter or smash pieces and fill the letter. They can also use play dough to mark the correct beginning sound picture on each card.
