How to Use These Beginning Sound Task Cards

Place the pile of letter cards in front of your students. They will pull one card at a time and determine which letter sounds are represented on the card. Then, they will locate the matching letter from their manipulatives. They will feed the turkey that letter by putting it on the open mouth.

If you don’t want students feeding the turkey, laminate the cards or place them in write and wipe pockets. Then, give the students a dry-erase marker to write the correct letter in the mouth space.

You can also write a number on each card and hide them around the room. Then, give each student a piece of paper and a clipboard. Students will search around the room for turkey cards. After determining the letter represented by each card, they will write the number on the card on the sheet of paper and record the letter next to it.

Many kids can do this independently because of the simple and easy-to-follow steps, making it perfect for your literacy centers or independent morning work.
