Easy Way to Enjoy Hands-On Math Activities
If you want to take your math time with kids to the next level, you’ll love this ice cream addition fun ! These print-and-go activities are colorful and perfect for hands-on learning.
When my boys were younger, I found it so helpful to incorporate a variety of resources in our homeschool math . I liked to have things for different learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic). We would read books, listen to and sing math-themed songs, and use simple materials to count.
Themes made it easier to find resources and get their attention. Knowing the benefits of hands-on activities for math , I worked off those themes to brainstorm and create resources for us to use – and to share with you! This pack of ice cream addition activities are a recreation of one of our favorite themes and ways to practice these important math facts.

There is one page with ten ice cream cones (with numbers one through ten). The other six pages have addition problems on ice cream scoops (with twelve scoops per page). You’ll find sixty-five addition problems plus seven blank scoops to customize. So many ways to practice addition with ice cream!
Ideas for Making and Organizing Your Ice Cream Addition Activities
I strongly suggest that you print the ice cream scoops and cones on white cardstock . This step will make your resources more durable.
To make these activities reusable, simply laminate the printable scoops and cones. Also, if you choose to laminate, you can use dry-erase markers on the blank scoops to write out your own addition problems. If you need different sums on the cones, flip the cone over and add the number there.
Want to provide even more hands-on fun with this activity ? Use pom poms, cotton balls, buttons, craft beads, or other small objects as counters.
A few ideas for using these math printables are:
Line up the cones from 1 – 10. Solve the addition problems. Place the correct scoop (sum) on the matching cone.
Randomly pick a cone. Find the ice cream scoop with correct sum and place it on top.
For extra practice (or older students), write down the equation on paper or dry erase board.
Once you have cut out your ice cream scoops and cones, you can easily store in a plastic sandwich bag, pencil pouch, pencil box, or other small storage container.
