This Toilet Roll Chocolate Easter Bunny Craft is easy and fun for kids of all ages to make! Cardboard Rolls and a few basic craft supplies are all you’ll need to make this adorable craft for Easter.
Last Sunday, my 16-year old son came home from work with a chocolate Easter bunny that he’d won in a sales campaign. It was one of those hollow bunnies with candy eyes, super-long ears, and a bow at his neck. I wish I’d thought to take a good photo of it, but um… it’s gone now (more on that in a bit).
Andrew set his bunny on the kitchen counter, and dashed off to the city for a couple of days, to visit his brother, who’s studying Graphic Design in Toronto. The Easter bunny sat on the counter, awaiting his return.
Now, you know how it is when you’re a teacher or a daycare provider, and everything you look at gives you inspiration for a craft or an activity? Well, that’s what it was like with this long-eared, chocolate bunny.
I kept looking at him with his goofy ears and little bow tie, thinking we need to make a bunny like this!
I had a March break craft day coming up for the older hooligans, so I got planning. We would make bunnies similar to the TP Roll Easter Bunnies we made a few years ago, but this time, instead of painting them in Easter colours, we’d make them look like chocolate bunnies. Brilliant!
Once I had the plan worked out, I should have put the chocolate bunny away, but I got busy and didn’t even think about it.
Flash forward to Tuesday morning.
The hooligans arrived at 9 am, excited for a day of crafting, and what did they notice right away?
The chocolate bunny sitting on the counter.
Oh man. How could I have NOT thought to put it away?
Of course, they got excited thinking it was for them. I’m sure you can hear it now. Four girls, 7, 8, and 9, and 10, all shrieking “Chocolate, chocolate! A chocolate bunny! Oh yum! Is that for us? I LOVE chocolate bunnies! Can we eat it?”
Meanwhile, I am madly texting my son: “Andrew! Are you planning to eat the chocolate bunny you won at work?”
No response.
I broke it to the kids that the Easter bunny was Andrew’s, so no, we couldn’t eat it, but we would be making an Easter bunny. A chocolate Easter bunny. A toilet paper roll chocolate Easter bunny. And the real chocolate bunny would be our model.
“Awwwwww!” Sad face x 4.
They’re good sports though, and because their love for crafting is greater than their love for chocolate, their disappointment was short-lived.
They raced off to the craft table to organize their supplies.

How to Make a Chocolate Easter Bunny from a Toilet Roll:
Supplies:
- toilet rolls (or paper towel rolls, wrapping paper rolls etc.)
- brown paint
- craft sticks
- buttons (we used white and coloured buttons to get the look of candy eyes)
- ribbon
- cotton balls
- glue (we used low heat glue guns)
- paintbrush
Making your Toilet Roll Chocolate Bunny
We trimmed our tp rolls to various heights and painted them with brown acrylic craft paint.
Then the girls painted their craft sticks to transform those into bunny ears. Some chose to add pink lines or dots to the ears.
With low-heat glue guns, they glued the ears to the inside of their cardboard tubes.
Aha! I did manage to get a shot of our bunny model! In the photo below, you can almost see how long his ears are.
They glued on cotton ball tails, and then they made “candy eyes” for their bunnies by gluing small coloured buttons to larger white ones.
They added pink buttons for noses, and some of the hooligans chose to paint mouths on their bunnies.
Then the girls selected ribbon scraps to make bow ties for their bunnies. We used a variety of ribbons: thin satin ribbons, lacy ribbons, and even twirling ribbon that you’d attach to a gift.
Aren’t they adorable?
And of course, the whole time they were making their bunnies, the topic of chocolate kept coming up.
I’ll admit, every time I look at these bunnies, I think of chocolate too!
So, what do you think happened when Andrew arrived home from Toronto a few hours later as we were sitting down for lunch?
They excitedly told him, “Andrew, Andrew, we made your chocolate Easter bunny as a craft!”
And then they all started pleading “Andrew, can we pleeeease eat your chocolate bunny? Please, Andrew! Pleeeeease!”
And because Andrew is such a good sport, and because his love for the hooligans is greater than his love for chocolate, we all split a chocolate Easter bunny for dessert.
