Axolotls have become big hits in our home. When my boys started enthusiastically talking about these underwater amphibians, I wanted to provide them with screen-free ways to enjoy. These free printable coloring pages with a variety of axolotls have been amazing additions to our homeschool fun activities.

Axolotls + Coloring = Tons of Creative Fun!
Got Minecraft fans? If so, you’ve probably heard A LOT about axolotls!
My younger boys love Minecraft. And they love to talk about it. I try to keep up with their conversations about their builds, mods, and such. To be honest, I just get a kick out of their enthusiasm and shared interests.
The boys were pumped up when Minecraft added axolotls to the game. They had read about these fascinating amphibians (and how they can regenerate lost body parts) in one of their science books. When these incredibly cool creatures were included in one of their favorite games, my boys were ecstatic.
I started looking for frugal ways to help my boys experience these Mexican axolotl salamanders. I put together these cute axolotl coloring pages for them – and to share with you and your kids!
All About These Cute Axolotl Coloring Pages
This free printable pack of axolotl coloring activities includes 10 pages (PDF format) plus a terms of use page.
All the pages are in black-and-white (which makes it easy on your printer!).
The axolotls featured in this set are adorable. You’ll find a variety in different underwater settings with rocks, plants, small fish, and air bubbles. Some axolotls have big smiles while others have their eyes closed (and look so cute like they’re sleeping).
Creative Ideas for Enjoying These Coloring Activities
I suggest printing these coloring pages on regular white printer paper. If you’d like to use these axolotl coloring pages as posters or decorations, print on white cardstock.
Have your collection of coloring tools ready. My boys and I like to select from:
- Crayons
- Color pencils
- Fine-tip markers
- Kwik Stix (the metallic ones are awesome for giving a shimmery effect!)
- Gel pens
- Oil pastels
- Watercolor brush pens can also be awesome!
Play music in the background is such an easy way to boost your coloring fun. Pick music that helps you relax or get energized.
Oh, and you can use the back of these printable pages to add extra drawings of axolotls. Older kids can use print or cursive to write out words related to axolotls – like fun facts and vocabulary. A cool challenge is to see how many words you can make out of the letters A-X-O-L-O-T-L.
