Candy canes are staples of Christmas. This candy cane craft is perfect for younger kids as it greatly focuses on fine motor skills and the end result is too cute.
These can even be used as Christmas ornaments, just add a bit of string to them once kids make them.

You can use any kind of beads to make these, from perler beads to larger ones if you are making this with younger kids.
How to Make the Candy Cane Craft
What you need:
- scissors
- chenille stick/pipe cleaner
- beads (white and red)
Tip: You can purchase white paper beads in craft stores and paint half of them red, or wooden ones and paint them accordingly.
Step by Step Tutorial
You need one pipe cleaner/chenille stick for one candy cane. Green is a great color to pick but any other color is fine as the stick won’t really be seen.
Twist the end a bit so the beads won’t come off.
Have the kids thread the first bead onto the chenille stick.
Keep adding beads – interchanging between red and white ones.
Continue adding the beads.
We used eight white and seven red beads.
Don’t forget to twist the end when kids add the last bead to make sure the beads don’t slide off.
Cut the excess of the chenille stick off if necessary.
Have kids bend the chenille stick into a cane shape, mimicking the iconic candy cane form.
All done! You can hang it on your tree or give it as a cute holiday gift.
You can make a bunch of them!
