Cardboard Sugar Cookie Ornaments – Happy Hooligans

These cardboard sugar cookie ornaments look good enough to eat. They’re fun and easy for kids of all ages to make and decorate, to hang on the Christmas tree.

These sugar cookie ornaments look so yummy, at a glance you’d never guess they were made out of cardboard.

I got the idea for these ornaments when we made our cardboard gingerbread cookies recently. They turned out super-cute, and I thought a sugar cookie version would be fun too.

I never dreamed they would turn out looking as yummy as they do. They look so real! I’ve had them sitting on the kitchen counter all morning, waiting to photograph them, and every time I walk by, I have to do a double take!

Cardboard Sugar Cookie Ornaments

  1. Cut out your shapes

Trace your cookie cutters on a sturdy piece of cardboard and cut out your shapes.

  2. Paint your shapes

Paint your shapes with 2 coats of cream coloured paint, allowing the paint to dry between coats.

  3. Paint on your “icing”

For the white icing: Once your cream paint is dry, paint your cookie shapes with white paint, but don’t go all the way to the edges.

For the coloured icing: Use a fine liner brush and colourful paint to outline the white icing.

    Allow your paint to dry.

  4. Add “sprinkles”

To decorate your cardboard sugar cookies, drizzle a generous amount of clear glue all over your ornament, and spread it around with a paintbrush. 5. Add a thread for hanging

With the tip of a pen or a sharp pencil, poke a hole through the cardboard near the top of your ornament. Add a piece of metallic thread and tie it with a double knot.

Go and hang your delicious-looking ornaments on your Christmas tree!
