Kids can use an empty cereal box and some cookie cutters to make these simple shaped sheet music ornaments. This is such a fun and easy way for preschoolers kids to make a simple Christmas ornament that looks great.
The other day we made some gorgeous glittered sheet music star ornaments, and while we were at it, one of the hooligans made a simplified version, which is what I’m sharing with you today.
I thought you might like these because the other ones called for loose glitter, which not everyone is a fan of, and it was a better craft for older children.

Today’s cookie cutter sheet music ornaments are perfect for younger crafters, as we’re working with thinner cardboard which is easier to cut with scissors, and we’re using glitter glue which is less messy than loose glitter if you’re working with toddlers and preschoolers.
These easier ornaments are still super-cute, and your little ones will be proud to hang them on your Christmas tree.
FYI: You don’t necessarily have to use cookie cutters to make these ornaments. You can use stencils to trace your shapes, or even hand draw them. If you use cookie cutters though, you’ll be able to make a whole variety of Christmas themed shapes like we did with our glittered cookie cutter Christmas ornaments.
Cookie Cutter Sheet Music Ornaments
Supplies:
- thin cardboard (a cereal box is perfect)
- cookie cutters or stencils
- pencil/scissors
- printable sheet music (get it here)
- glitter glue
- paint brush
Making your cookie cutter sheet music ornaments:
Have your child trace their shapes, either from a stencil or from your collection of cookie cutters, on to a piece of the sheet music.
Then have your child cut out their shapes.
Next, have your child trace the same shapes on to the piece of cardboard, but this time, when cutting them out, cut a little ways out from the pencil line so the cut out cardboard shape is larger than the sheet music shape.
Then have your child glue the sheet paper shape to the cardboard shape.
To add some shimmer to these simple cookie cutter sheet music ornaments, have your child brush a layer of glitter glue on the cardboard border of their ornament.
Attach a piece of cord or metallic thread for hanging your ornament.
So simple and so sweet for the Christmas tree.
