Using This CVC Reading Activity
If you want to reuse this activity, laminate the pages and use dry-erase markers. Students can read, write, and color using the markers and then erase them when they are done for the next student to use.
There are five worksheets to choose from. Each of them features one vowel. For example, there are five short CVC words on the first page. Choose the vowel you want to work on and print that page.
Differentiated Reading Practice
This is a great way to reinforce skills that students have already learned. Add them to centers, use them during small groups, or send them home for extra practice.
Students just beginning to blend sounds and read CVC words could do this activity in small groups with help. Students reading CVC words independently can use these reading pages to practice this skill independently or with a partner during literacy centers.
If you want kids to practice writing more, have them rainbow-write the word in the writing section. This means they will write over the word several times in different colors!
Since each page focuses on a specific short vowel sound, you can give your students concentrated practice with each sound as you cover them. Students can choose which worksheet to use if they have learned all of the short vowel sounds.
As you can tell, these CVC worksheets are packed with learning opportunities. Students will learn many essential literacy skills while also getting lots of fine motor practice!
Don’t stress about teaching your students to blend phonemes and read CVC words. Add these CVC word sorting worksheets to your plans and give them additional practice with these critical skills.
