Doily Angel Christmas Card Craft for Kids

If your kids make homemade cards to give at Christmas, I think you’ll like the easy angel cards we made here the other day. They’d make a lovely card for a child to make for a parent, grandparent or teacher along with a little homemade gift.

The other day we made some doily Christmas tree Christmas cards, and they looked so pretty, we decided to use the same idea to make these doily Angel Christmas cards.

After brainstorming about what we could use for angels wings, I remember that I’d picked up a package of artificial rose petals at the dollar store that might be perfect little angel wings. We experimented, and loved the way they looked so we raided our supply of artificial flowers so we would have a variety of flower petals to use.

Be sure to check out our Wine Cork Angels too! They’re perfect for hanging around the neck of a bottle of wine that you’re giving as a gift!

The flower petals, along with the other materials we’ve used to make our angels, provided a bit of sensory fun for the kids, and gave our cards a 3-D effect. I love the way our angels pop out from the front of the cards.

How to Make a Doily Angel Christmas Card

Supplies for Doily Angel Christmas CardSupplies for Doily Angel Christmas Card

Supplies:

  • coloured card stock
  • paper doilies
  • pom pom or cotton ball
  • artificial flower petals
  • metallic pipe cleaner
  • craft gems/sequins
  • glue/glue gun

Note: If you want to colour your doilies, check out the process here.

Making our cards:

The kids chose the colour of card stock they wanted for their card, and folded that in half.

Then they folded their doily to make their angel’s dress. They folded a doily in half, and then folded it again a couple of times, accordion style.

Before gluing their doily to the card, they glued their flower petal angel wings in place.

Then they glued the doily dress to the card, and glued a pom pom or a cotton ball head just above the top point of the doily.

Next, they formed their angel’s halo out of a pipe cleaner. We slightly flattened the back side of the halo, and used a glue gun to glue it in place just above the angel’s head. You could glue it directly onto your angel’s head, but we love the way we did it. It gives the illusion that the halo is actually floating above the angel’s head.

To finish, the kids added some shimmery craft gems to their angel’s dresses.
