More Ideas to Use the Number Cards

These number-tracing and matching cards give students different exposure to the same number. That is very beneficial for students just learning their numbers or struggling number sense.

To add more fine motor skills practice to the number resource, have students use play dough to make the number. They can roll it into snakes and form the number or smash pieces and fill in the number. Just make sure you laminate the cards or slide them into write and wipe pockets if you do this.

Another option would be to have students use small manipulatives, such as pom poms, mini erasers, beads, or jewels, to build the number. Just ensure you don’t use small pieces with students who still put things in their mouths.

Another fine motor idea would be to have the kids write the numbers in a salt tray after they complete the tracing card. Make a sand tray by pouring craft sand into a small tray or pencil box. Students will use their fingers to write on the tray. Add fun manipulatives to make it even more interesting!

Differentiate the number formation tracing cards by splitting them into groups for varying levels in your classroom. For example, a bag of the numbers 1-10, 11-20, and a set of 0-20. With this freebie, students will also be practicing number recognition and counting while building number sense.

These number formation & matching cards are a great addition to your math resources. Your students will be so excited to practice numbers this year!
