This dog-friendly hotel has an indoor pool and is home to Spa Fjor, which boasts a full array of spa services. During the holiday season, there is a tree lighting in the lobby and tea with a nutcracker. In warmer months, the Top of Newport Bar + Lounge, while more suitable for older children, has killer views of town and harbor. The Newport Harbor Island Resort, located on One Goat Island (how cool is that address?) has an indoor heated pool and an outdoor saltwater pool. The resort has four different places to grab grub, including the Pineapple Club (open seasonally), with panoramic views of Narragansett Bay, and Torpedo Bar and Lounge, a cozy restaurant serving American fare. While there are no kids’ menus, there are warm chocolate chip cookies that can be ordered from the many firepits on the outdoor decks. The new Kid’s Club is for ages 3-12 and includes yard games, arts and crafts, and sports. Check them out from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and by appointment off season. The game room is open year-round, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m..
3. The Brenton Hotel – Newport
The Brenton Hotel has a prime location in downtown Newport, and it’s perfect for darting home for a quick nap time in-between shopping. It’s a short walk to the ice-cream shops, boutiques, and ports of Bowen’s Wharf. It’s also across the street from Cardines field, one of the oldest ballparks in the country. If you like a lively setting, this is the property for you. Keep in mind breakfast is served Sunday through Saturday, 7am to 10:30 am, and Sunday brunch (with a kids menu) is from 9 am to 1 pm.
