American Revolution Facts FOR KIDS

  1. The American Revolution – also called the United States War of Independence – was the insurrection fought between 1775 to 1783.
  2. The battle of Lexington and Concord marked the beginning of the war when the British royal governor of Massachusetts organized 700 British troops for a march to Concord.
  3. During the American Revolutionary War 13 of Great Britain’s North American colonies threw off British rule to establish the sovereign United States of America, founded with the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
  4. The conflict is often referred to as both a war for independence and a civil war, as it divided families and communities among those who supported independence and those who remained loyal to the British crown.
  5. The conflict arose primarily due to tensions between the British government and the American colonies over taxation, representation, colonial autonomy, and other issues.

The Boston Tea Party was the first major act of defiance to British tyrannical rule.
  1. Notable American figures like John Adams and Benjamin Franklin played crucial roles in advocating for colonial rights and political independence.
