This activity requires very little prep. Print the pages and cut out the cards. You can also laminate the cards for more durability.
How to Use this Beginning Sound Cards
Place the pile of letter cards in front of your students. They will pull one card at a time and determine which letters sound is represented on the card. Then, they will locate the matching letter from their manipulatives. They will feed the pumpkin that letter by putting it on the open mouth.
If you don’t want students feeding the pumpkin, laminate the cards or place them in write and wipe pockets. Then, give the students a dry-erase marker to write the correct letter in the mouth space.
You can also write a number on each card and hide the cards around the room. Then give each student a piece of paper and a clip board. Students will search around the room for pumpkin cards. After they determine the letter represented by each card, they will write the number on the card on the sheet of paper and record the letter next to it.
Many kids can do this independently because of the simple and easy to follow steps, making it perfect for your literacy centers or independent morning work.
