They can be adapted to meet the needs of students at a huge variety of levels! Use for numbers 0-10 or teen numbers and more!

More Simple Ways to Use the Mats

If students aren’t ready to write equations, just have them choose numbers and break them into parts .

Students will also love building towers and snapping them into pieces to place on either side of the fish. This will slowly build their confidence in writing equations later.

You can choose to use any numbers you would like to as well.

You can also have students write down their equations on a sheet of paper to serve as a recording sheet for this number sense activity.
