Did you have any Fisher Prince vintage toys as a child? We’ve recently discovered our vintage Fisher Price toys from my childhood.
I’ve been looking into the history of old Fisher Price toys and the Fisher Price classic toys from our childhoods. Here’s a bit more about them, and where you can buy Fisher Price retro toys and figures.
Where We Found Our Fisher Price Vintage Toys
One of the best things about going to visit our parents – apart from wine on tap, a fridge full of good cheese, and getting to spend time with them, of course – is having all the old books and toys , like the Fisher Price vintage toys – bought out for Eliza. It keeps her entertained for hours, is a bit of a nostalgia-fest, and as I said before, occasions like these are surely one of the really good things about having kids.
And my mum kept all our old Fisher Price vintage toys. We had the Fisher Price Little People vintage figures, the little characters in the top photo, who slot into a whole world of play furniture, buildings and vehicles.
We also had the airport, the garage, and the camper van that was also a boat.
My mum inherited all of our Fisher Price classic toys from other family members.
Where To Buy Fisher Prince Vintage Toys
Are you looking to buy Fisher Price figures? Here are some great places to find them:
- Firstly, check in your parent’s loft – they might have kept your childhood toys and still have them up there!
- Ask around older relatives to see if they have any
- EBay is a good place to start, lots of the Fisher Price classic toy sets come up on there
- Facebook Marketplace is also a good bet for sourcing and buying old Fisher Price toys
- We’ve found small sets, such as the Fisher Price plane, in charity shops (especially in areas where there are lots of families and children)
- Try specialist vintage toys shops (there are lots of these online on Etsy, for example)
Are Vintage Fisher Prince Toys Good For Modern Kids?
Yes, the Fisher Prince vintage figures are good for modern kids but make sure they are old enough to play with them (the older Little People are considered a choking hazard).
The toys are made of pretty durable plastic which means they have stood the test of time and with a quick wash can be in good playing mode (even if they don’t look brand new).
Eliza was fascinated and spent ages playing with them, putting them in and out of the vehicles and flying them around. I may or may not have spent ages arranging them into colourful patterns.
The History Of The Fisher Price Little People
Looking at them now, don’t they seem ever so slightly freaky? Especially the Stepford-esque ponytailed ladies and the dog who is as big as the people. They were called the ‘Little People’, there is now a collectors club and also a whole Buzzfeed post dedicated to them.
The Fisher Price classic toys also make an appearance in the Museum Of Childhood in London!
