My daycare hooligans love making homemade dolls, and we’ve made a number of really adorable ones over the years.
I’ve put together a collection of our favourite homemade doll crafts so you’ll have them here in one place for you.
From paper dolls to tiny worry dolls made with sticks and yarn, to tall, skinny paint stick dolls decorated with yarn and fabric scraps, you’ll find some great homemade doll ideas here for kids of all ages.
Homemade Doll Crafts for Kids
Paint Stick Dolls
My girls ask to make these Paint Stick Dolls all the time. They love exploring our fabric and yarn collection to give each doll his or her own unique look.
Popsicle Stick Dolls
The hooligans love making these popsicle stick dolls too. Instead of dressing them with fabric swatches, like we did for our paint stick dolls, the clothing for these dolls is made by wrapping a craft stick in various different yarns.
Homemade Worry Dolls
Worry Dolls are really fun and easy to make. They encourage fine motor development, and they’re great for kids who struggle with worries and anxiety at bedtime.
Cardboard Roll Doll Family
These adorable cardboard roll dolls are fun for all ages to make, and perfect for shoebox dollhouse.https://happyhooligans.ca/cardboard-roll-dolls/. With fabric scraps and yarn, kids can make each doll unique.
Flat People Dolls
I first made Flat People dolls years ago when the preschoolers in my daycare wanted some paper dolls that they could colour. I simply sketched these and made a little base for them, and the kids had a great time colouring them in. kids.
Homemade Paper Doll Craft
These Homemade Paper Dolls are a lot of fun for preschoolers and kindergarten aged kids to make. My kids always love exploring different fabric, yarn and ribbons to find just the perfect look for their dolls.
Pringles Can Dolls
You can turn an empty Pringles can into a doll that doubles as a storage container. The hooligans had fun decorating theirs with yarn, buttons, paint and ribbons and ended up with adorable containers to stash their treasures in.
Paint Stick Ballerina Craft
These sweet ballerina paint stick dolls are great if you have dancers at your house. They’ll love decorating the tutus for their dolls and winding their hair into a bun. And how about the adorable slippers. Those are real ribbons.
Toilet Roll Nativity Set
Years ago, I made each of my daycare kids a set of these Toilet Roll Nativity Dolls as well as a set to keep here at my house. They still love playing with these dolls at Christmas time. You can even make a shoebox stable to go along with your dolls. Great for pretend play and for storing your dolls in when the holidays are over.
And speaking of shoeboxes…
Shoebox Dollhouse:
Your homemade dolls will need a house to live in! My guys love making shoebox dollhouses. It’s one of those classic crafts that can keep them entertained for ages. Recently, my gang spent the better part of an afternoon pouring through magazines finding the perfect “furnishings” to decorate cardboard houses for their dolls to live in.
Stay tuned – we have another doll craft in the works and I’ll be adding it to this collection soon!
