Halloween Silhouette Art with Painted Parchment or Wax Paper

Painted parchment paper or wax paper makes the perfect backdrop for a piece of spooky Halloween silhouette art.

Here’s another cool Halloween Silhouette project for your kids to try! The process is similar to the one we used to make our fall leaf silhouette window art the other day.

We’re using paint and parchment paper (wax paper works too) again for today’s project, but this time, instead of cutting pieces out of the painted paper to create the silhouettes, we’re using the painted parchment as the background for our silhouettes.

The process for painting the parchment paper is fun, and because the paper is translucent, when you hold it up to a window, even though it’s painted, the sun shines through it, making it perfect for a piece of silhouette art.

You can see what I mean in this next image. Look how the sunlight illuminates the layer of paint on the parchment paper.

The silhouette project you see here is quite simple with just a few pumpkin and bat silhouettes, but there’s no limit to how detailed you can get with your own piece. Your kids could create a spooky haunted house scene with trees, clouds, moon etc. or they can use the background make a non-spooky fall skyline silhouette.

Whatever design you choose, your halloween silhouettes will look lovely hanging in a window in your home or classroom this fall.
