How to Make This Christmas Suncatcher Craft
01
Prepare Christmas shape
Draw a Christmas tree (or other shape) on the black cardstock. The tree (or shape) should be almost the size of the paper.
02
Make suncatcher frame
Cut out the inside of the tree only (not the trunk), leaving about a one-inch border.
03
Prepare tissue paper
Cut several red circles and many green squares from the tissue paper.
04
Start with contact paper
Lay down the contact paper, sticky side up.
Lay the tree out on the paper. Press down to stick them together.
Lay the red circle ornaments down first.
05
Add all tissue paper and trim
Lay the green squares down to cover all available space inside the tree border.
Cut off the extra contact paper from around the tree.
Flip over and hang.
Ideas for Enjoying Your Christmas-Inspired Suncatchers
Get creative with your decorations. Stickers or sequins can work well. Or cut out different shapes of construction paper or tissue paper for variety.
A fun activity to do with your kids is to go around and count how many windows you have in a particular room (or classroom) or your entire house. Based on that number, how many DIY suncatchers could you make? It’s an excellent estimation exercise!
These homemade suncatchers can also look very cool on a mirror.
Don’t forget to make extra DIY Christmas trees to give to family and friends!
Not into the tree theme? No worries! Go with another holiday theme with shapes like an ornament, candy cane, present, reindeer, star, Ugly Christmas sweater, or more.
