Mason Jar Lid Wreath – with Ribbons and Buttons

Wrap ribbon around a mason jar lid, and decorate it with buttons for a pretty homemade wreath ornament to hang on your Christmas tree. This easy Christmas craft is great for kids and adults alike, and only takes about 30 minutes to make.

We’ve made a few different button wreaths in the past and we’ve made several mason jar lid crafts, but we’ve never made a button wreath ON a mason jar lid until today.

My daycare kids really enjoyed making these little wreaths. The ribbon-wrapping process challenged their fine-motor abilities and they always love sorting through our big bin of vintage buttons at craft time.

It’s kind of amazing to think that you can transform an ordinary metal lid into something so pretty, isn’t it?

Let me show you how we made them.

  1. Wrap Lid with Ribbon

Cut a long length of ribbon or twine. The length you cut will depend on the size of your lid and the width of your ribbon, but you’ll need at least a couple of feet of ribbon.

Glue the starting end of your ribbon inside the lid of the lid and start wrapping, overlapping the edges of the ribbon as you go so the metal doesn’t show.

When your lid is completely covered, glue the end piece inside of the lid with your hot glue gun.

  2. Glue on Buttons

With your hot glue gun, glue the buttons to the front of the lid. You can glue them to the side as well if you like, just as we did here with our green ribbon/red button wreath. closeup kid gluing red buttons on green ribbon mason lidcloseup kid gluing red buttons on green ribbon mason lid

  3. Hang it!

Glue a piece of metallic thread or ribbon inside the top of the mason jar lid. close up green ribbon wrapped around mason lid ringclose up green ribbon wrapped around mason lid ring

So simple but so sweet! The perfect little last-minute craft for Christmas.
