Making paper chains is one of those oldie goldie crafts that kids have been doing for generations, and while they are mostly done in the festive season, you can easily use paper chains to make all kinds of projects the rest of the year.
In this tutorial we are going to show you how your kids can make a simple paper chain snake craft.

You can make this with one color or as colorful as you like. You can also challenge the kids to draw patterns on the paper before cutting it into paper strips to give the paper snakes an even more unique look.

How to Make Paper Chain Snake Craft
What you need:
- pencil
- scissors
- glue
- color paper (red and two shades of green)
- black marker
- white liner
Step by Step Tutorial
Cut out strips of paper. The size of them doesn’t really matter; the only important thing is that they are all the same lenght.

Start with one strip of paper and make the first chain part. Apply glue to one end of a paper strip, roll it and glue the ends together.

Then, roll it and secure it to form a chain part.

Take the next one (if using two colors, this should be the other colored one). Push it through the first one and apply glue on one end.

(You can also apply glue before sliding it in if this feels easier, as you can apply glue with the paper strip on the surface).

Press the ends together for the glue to set.

Continue adding more paper rolls to the chain.

Add more, and keep on adding until you are happy with the length of your snake.

Draw a tail tip shape on a paper strip.

Cut it out carefully.

Then, slide it through the last loop.

Glue it in place.

Let’s make the head. We want the head to be a little bigger, so use a wider paper strip than you did with the body paper strips.

Draw a snake head with a pencil on one side. Make sure the snake’s “neck” is drawn at the fold.

And cut it out.
Add eyes and nostrils with a marker.

You can also use googly eyes.

Cut a thin red paper strip for the tongue and glue it inside the snake’s mouth.

Slide the head through the other end of the paper chain and secure it with glue.

Let the glue dry completely before showcasing your fun, creative paper chain snake craft!

You can also attach string to the head of the snake and drag it around.

Happy crafting!

Hang the snake as a room decoration, or incorporate it into a puppet show for added fun!
