Easy Ways to Boost Summer Reading Fun
Need some quick ways to help your kids take their summer reading to the next level? Or maybe you’d like some screen-free activities to beat the heat or have rainy day fun? Perhaps you want some frugal and easy activities for camp, homeschool co-op, or other summer event with children?
These free printable summer bookmarks to color will be excellent for all of those things and more!
I love finding and using print-and-go ways to boost our celebration of any holiday, season, or special event. These types of printables are so simple to prepare ahead of time (or get ready if you need a last-minute activity).
As I was planning for our summer homeschool fun, I thought about some of our more recent favorite activities – coloring bookmarks (like our Pokemon, Super Mario, and Minecraft bookmarks)! These printables for DIY fun are more detailed. My boys and I like those types of challenges.
We’re all about books this summer! The boys and I are reading, listening to audiobooks, and enjoying wonderful conversations about it all. These printable bookmarks with summer themes will fit in perfectly with all of that reading fun!
Learn All About These Summer Bookmarks to Color
This free printable set of summer bookmarks includes five different styles on one page. All of the bookmarks are designed to be colored and are in black-and-white.
Each bookmark has summer themes and positive messages, like:
- Enjoy Summer (with swimming accessories like goggles and flippers, beach ball, ice cream cone, star fish, shell, and cute lemon with heart-shaped sunglasses in a float)
- Summer Time (with watermelon slice, unicorn float, shells, soft-serve ice cream cone, tropical drink, and starfish wearing sunglasses and swimming trunks)
- Summer Vibes (with popsicles, watermelon slice, sun, swimming trunks, and shells)
- Hello Summer (with popsicle, ice cream cone, starfish, pineapple, beach ball, sunscreen, beach tote, and watermelon slice on flamingo float)
- Seas the Day (with watermelon slice, popsicle, starfish, ice cream cone, surfing pineapple)
Creative Ideas for Making These Coloring Bookmarks
To get the most out of these summer coloring bookmarks, I highly recommend printing on white cardstock to improve durability. Also, it can be a great idea to laminate the bookmarks after your student is done coloring and customizing.
I prefer to use glitter gel pens for my bookmarks. I like the shimmery effects that these pens make. My boys like to use fine-tip markers and color pencils.
Oh, and another easy way to strengthen the bookmarks is to use washi tape. This step reinforces the bookmark by adding the washi tape to the back.
A fun idea is to use a hole punch at the top of the bookmark. Attach a ribbon or piece of colored twine or yarn through the hole for an extra bit of decoration.
