Tissue Paper Valentine’s Hearts – Happy Hooligans

These Tissue Paper Hearts are fun and easy for kids to make for Valentine’s Day. Toddlers and preschoolers will get a fine motor work-out making this heart craft, and older kids will have fun designing and filling in their hearts with crumpled tissue paper.

As you can imagine, my daycare kids have been making lots of Valentines crafts this week. Today our craft table was a sea of red and pink tissue paper as we were making tissue paper roses and this crumpled tissue paper heart craft.

Tissue Paper Valentines Heart Craft

When I was a kid, we used to make tissue paper art by wrapping a square of tissue paper around the end of a pencil. Then we’d dip into a puddle of glue and stick the tissue paper to fill in our design or picture.

It was one of my favourite ways to make art.

We’ve been doing something similar here in my daycare for years, but because I often have toddlers and preschoolers at the table, we don’t bother using a pencil.

Instead, the kids just crumple or twist their tissue paper. It’s a great sensory experience and a fun way to strengthen fine-motor skills.

And the process produces beautiful results, don’t you think?
