Toilet Paper Roll Witch and Cat

This is a fun Halloween craft for kids of all ages. For littler kids, it can help to skip the cat’s whiskers (or draw them on with the white paint pen) and keep the witch’s head flat to save a few minutes.

For another cute witch craft, see our popsicle stick witch and witch coloring pages. If you love recycled crafts, see my recycled crafts for kids books.

We made a black cat to go with every witch, but you can make as many of them as you’d like!

Supplies Needed:

  • Toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls cut down to size
  • Colored paper – construction paper in green, orange, purple, brown, and black
  • Cardstock – black, to use for the witch’s hat and cat’s tail and white for the cat’s whiskers
  • Googly eyes – 2 for each cat and 2 for each witch
  • Buttons – 2 for the witch’s collar
  • Glue – white glue and hot glue (with adult assistance)
  • Clear tape – to secure paper in place
  • Scissors – to cut out all the paper shapes
  • Black marker – to draw faces onto the witches
  • White paint pen – to draw the mouth on the cat
  • Pom poms – purple, for the cat nose, 1 per cat
  • Popsicle sticks – 1 per witch, to make the broom
  • Printable templates – found at the bottom of the post

How to Make a Toilet Paper Roll Witch

1. Cut out the paper shapes.

Print out the free printable templates found at the bottom of the post. Trace the face onto green paper, the hair pieces onto orange paper, the body onto black paper, and the hat and brim onto black cardstock.

2. Make the witch’s body.

Wrap the green paper around one end of the paper roll and use clear tape to secure in place.

Do the same for the black paper, wrapping it around the tube and taping it in place, so that the taped seams both line up – this will be the back of the witch.

Apply a small amount of white glue to the back of the orange bangs and glue onto the front of the witch’s face.

3. Trim the paper roll. (optional)

Use a pencil to make a mark about 1″ down from the top edge of the toilet paper roll.

Starting at this mark, use scissors to trim an angle onto the paper tube – this will allow the witch hat to sit on an angle on the witch’s head.

We like the angled head because it allows the witch hat to really stand out, but it is a totally optional step.

Trim the tube so that the top edge has an angle to it like this:

This step is optional and can be skipped if you’re short on time – if you skip this step, the witch’s hat will sit flat on her head, not on an angle as shown in these photos.

4. Attach the hat.

Apply a thin line of white glue or hot glue along the angled edge of the paper tube and press the circle-shaped black brim onto the glue to secure.

Use hot glue to assemble the top part of the witch’s hat into a cone, and then glue the cone onto the top of the hat brim, keeping it centered as much as possible.

5. Attach the hair.

Fold both hair pieces at the highest point, like this:

Apply glue to this flap and place onto each side of the witch’s face.

6. Add the face details.

Glue on 2 googly eyes and draw on a nose and smile with a black marker.

Glue 2 buttons onto the black paper just below the green paper.

7. Make the broom.

Cut out the broom template and trace onto brown kraft paper. Use scissors to snip along the edge, forming a fringe.

Glue a popsicle stick to the end of the rectangle and begin rolling the paper around it, forming the end of the broom. When you reach the end, glue the paper in place.

Use hot glue to secure the popsicle stick to the witch’s body.

How to Make a Toilet Paper Roll Black Cat

1. Cut out the paper shapes.

Trace the templates (found in the printable template at the bottom of the post) onto paper and cut out. The cat’s body should be cut from black paper, the tail from black cardstock, and the ears from purple paper. For the whiskers, cut thin strips of white cardstock about 1″ long and 1/16″ wide.

2. Make the cat’s body.

Cut down a toilet paper roll so that it is about 2″ long.

Wrap the black paper around the tube and use tape to secure it in place.

3. Make the cat’s face.

Apply glue to the 2 purple triangles and glue onto the black ears.

Glue on 2 googly eyes and apply a dab of white glue below them. Gently place the 6 paper whiskers into the glue.

Use a white paint pen to draw the mouth on below the glue.

Place a small purple pom pom onto the glue as a nose. If the pom pom does not stay, use hot glue (with adult assistance) to secure.

4. Add the tail.

Glue or tape the tail onto the back of the cat’s body.
