I always have a large stash of these clear Christmas ornaments tucked away in my craft cupboard because we make all kinds of crafts with them here in my daycare at Christmas time.
You can see all of our clear ball ornaments here.
A couple of years ago we used them to make these snowman face ornaments, and this year, I thought it would be fun to turn the clear plastic balls into snowman bellies.
They were very easy to make, and turned out really cute.
The kids loved rummaging through the our stash of ribbons and buttons to find just the right combination of pieces for their snowmen.
Suggestions for filling your ornaments:
To create the look of snow in our ornaments, we’ve filled them with tissue paper.
If you don’t have tissue paper on hand, you can use artificial snow, cotton balls, yarn, shredded paper, Kleenex, or even coconut.
Just be sure to use a material that’s light and fluffy so it doesn’t make your ornament too heavy to hang on the tree.
I hope you have as much fun making your snowman bellies as we did!

How to Make a Snowman Belly Ornament
- Fill your Ornament.
Tear a sheet of tissue paper into 3 inch strips. Remove the lid of your ornament and use a pencil or a chopstick to poke the tissue paper down into the ball.
TIP: Feed the tissue paper in a little at a time, otherwise it will get jammed in the neck of the ornament, and you’ll have to pull it back out and start again.
Once your ornament is full, pop the lid back on.
- Add buttons and a scarf.
Glue the buttons down the front of the ornament, and tie or glue a strip of fabric, ribbon or lace around the neck and lid of the ornament.
- Make a hanger.
Fashion a hook out of a piece of white or sparkly pipe cleaner, and fasten it to the loop on top of the ornament’s lid.
Wasn’t that easy?
Now, go and hang your little snowman belly on your Christmas tree!
